What's Haute | Embellished Tights

Often in fall our stylish outfits are hidden under long winter coats, meaning the staple item of what we wear must either be tights or the shoes if we want to create a different style for each day of the colder months. One sure way of getting noticed is to embrace bold coloured tights, but lipstick red doesn’t always go with every garment we wear. Black can dampen our mood when we have been wearing opaque tights throughout winter, so why have plain tights, when you can have beautifully embossed ones? Embellished tights have been a trend that has continued to grow, from Zac Posen, Doo.Ri and Miu Miu’s jewelled and sequined tights from last fall, to this autumn/winter’s runway style of Rebecca Taylor. The designer showcased her Swarovski bejeweled hosiery, revealing that embellished tights can bring life to any plain outfit, and looks divine with a LBD to add a touch of look-at-me charm.

Rebecca Taylor’s models shimmered down the runway with over 2,800 crystals on their legs, helping to set alight the trend for glamorous tights. Ohne Titel adorned his hosiery with stitch panels, and we have since spotted some glistening beauties on the pins of singer Marina of Marina and the Diamonds at the UK music festival Radio 1’s Big Weekend. The diamante-encrusted legwear added a touch of glamour, and led us right into the hands of hosiery make Bebaroque, who have not only appeared on the editorials of Vogue countless times, but the designers behind the brand, Mhairi McNicol and Chloe Patience, have also won the Scottish Accessory Designer of the Year which is sponsored by the fashion bible. Worn by the famous style blogger Style Bubble’s Susie Lau, the tights have shot into embellishment fame with a mix of diamante, jewel and exquisitely patterned tights and leggings which shouldn’t be missed out of any fashionista’s wardrobe. With such a creative trend, it is possible to create countless looks from a garment we usually put so little thought into. So before you step into your next pair of plain tights why not add a sparkle to your step and brighten up the winter months with a step of embellishment. -Isabella Stockwell
