The Ray ban Wayfarer, the Icon of the sun glass world, one of the most recognizable styles ever produced. Timeless, Incredibly versatile and always chic. the "distinctive trapezoidal frame spoke a non-verbal language that hinted at unstable dangerousness, but one nicely tempered by the sturdy arms which, according to the advertising, gave the frames a masculine look.'" Wayfarers christened a new era of plastic eye wear; before this, thin metal frames were predominantly used. They soon became popular among many of the rich, famous and recognizable including- Jack Nicholson, Madonna, Tom Cruise ( Risky Business), Rob Lowe, Anna Wintour, Debbie Harry, and Elvis Costello. Aside from the previous list of famous faces, the style is most seen in Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn- which she, and I quote " turned them into an accessory legend". The Wayfarer had it's peak during the 50's and 60's and then sales dwindled to around 20,000 but had a resurgence by the end 80's and sales rocketed into the millions.
