Spring 2009 Recap

Missed New York fashion week? Don't worry we've got you covered. This upcoming Spring, noteworthy designers and emerging trends separate the trendy from the mundane.

Derek Lam
His Spring 09 collection is reminiscent of a nostalgic Coco Chanel in Venice, Italy (1939) and modern day Venice Beach, California. The marriage of both inspirations resulted in a contemporary take on classical pieces. Look for slouchy jackets, cigarette pants and neutral colors. Lam's resurrection of the "jumper" is worth keeping an eye on.

Proenza Schouler
Can we say fierce? This collection has a dominating feel. It's pretty much a celebration of female confidence. No Frills, just pure sex appeal.

Betsey Johnson
We can't deny that the Betsey Johnson show was over the top. I love her style, but this season just didn't win me over. With the intensity of bright colors and crazy wigs, it was more like a circus parade graced by a bunch of life-sized Raggedy Ann dolls. (Sorry Betsey) The line will be altered for retail, which I'm rather thankful for.

Chris Benz
Benz never fails to deliver. He casts a spell by knowing how to delicately combine minimalism and innovation. Luxurious fabrics on their own make a compelling statement.

The Little Black Dress

No matter her budget, location, or social circle, a great cocktail dress is a necessity every girl should have in her wardrobe. And though most girls would love to pick out a new dress for every party they go to, the option just isn’t feasible. Enter the “little black dress.” The classy black dress has been a staple since it’s introduction in the 1920’s by iconic designer Coco Chanel. The LBD is a timeless trend. A simple, elegant black frock can be dressed up or down depending on accessories. And it is just as versatile as it is stylish. You can don your favorite shift dress and add spiky heels, heavy eye liner and bunches of bangles to prove a rocker chic ensemble, but the same dress decorated with strands of pearls, a loose updo hairstyle and elegant ballet flats will give off a classy Holly Golighty-esque vibe. A great black cocktail dress is a necessity every girl should have in her wardrobe.

What's Haute

How adorable is this watch by Betsey Johnson? I never wear watches and thought I never would but now a necessity, i wanted to find something that wasn't ugly as most watches are in my opinion. Anyways this watch is chic, fashion forward and fun just like us Haute Mimi girls. Available at http://www.amazon.com/

Hope in a jar by Philosophy is the moisturizer I use everyday. I do not even know where to begin I fell in love after my first application. This is one beauty product I stock up on religiously. It's ingredients include lactic acid that acts as a great exfoliator, leaving your skin buttery soft. http://www.philosophy.com/
