Daisy Lowe is the face of Anna Sui A/W

Anna Sui is a woman of patterns. Or rather, of affinities. And no, I'm not talking about lace or latex or chiffon here. She has an affinity with picking British models as the face of her ad campaigns. For example: NY fashion week with Agenyss Deyn, Lily Donaldson (a personal favorite) and Diasy Lowe. Now Lowe is the face of her A/W ad campaign. A single picture has been released but industry insiders are buzzing with opinions divided over the final results.

Personally, I think the way her legs are positioned looks slightly awkward and the entire picture is rather unflattering. Steven Meisel is said to NOT be the photographer. I can't wait for the final results, can you? -Arushi

Chic Fall Outerwear Via Boudoir D'Huitres

Boudoir D'Huitres by Mimi Plange is simply stunning. Every piece is magnificent and invokes a sense of glamour, exuberance and fancy. This is the brand editor's keep to themselves. For fall, Boudoir D'Huitres put a spin on old classics like the camel coat and blazer. We absolutely adore this fabulous camel coat which will add richness to any look. The pink satin blazer will look fabulous with your black thigh high boots and minis as well as over your sequined party dresses. View the entire Boudoir D'Huitres Collection by Mimi Plange collection here.

Designer Style File: 3.1 Philip Lim

Philip Lim is without doubt one of my favorite designers. The designer, who's pieces are notoriously wearable, mixes young feminine vibes with luxe chic. He stands out with his well-cut, classically tailored, urban floral, floaty minidresses, coats and very intricately detailed pieces.
His Resort 2010 collection was all about pretty lace dresses, denim and lamés. All very summery and refreshing. There were trences, polka dots, sequins, linen and lots of other slices of heaven. Mr. Lim, all we can day is : "We can't wait till next season."

Helmut Lang

Alexander Wang went wrong on his last collection. It is simple, Helmut Lang and The Row have kept to their trademark simple shapes and fabrics every season. Without fail they've had raving reviews and fabulous sales. Alexander Wang, boy wonder and minimalist would have done fine had he followed their rule and kept to what he knows best. When i see a collection like Helmut's above i am inspired, when i see Alexander Wang's Givenchy rip offs in his latest collection i'm so glad i'm not wearing Wang this season. Lets hope Wang will bring back his sexy racerbacks and sportswear deluxe, we miss S/S08!

Maurie and Eve Interview

Maurie and Eve is a new designer label we're following here at Haute Mimi. Founded by two friends, Kelly Davies and Maya Clemmenson, Maurie And Eve is taking the fashion world by storm. The line has been featured in top magazines and sell in over 80 boutiques in Australia and now they are ready to take over the States. The two friends feature tie dye and batik prints this season giving their looks a laid back beach style obviously inspired from their hometown of Sydney. We had a chance to get to know this design duo and we know you'll adore their latest collection. Visit Maurie and Eve here.

HM: Describe your style in one word.
K-M: RAD

HM: What is your best-kept style secret?
K-M: None of this Less is More… We’re all about MORE is more…

HM: Where is your favorite place to shop?
K-M: Harajuku St Tokyo… there are the best vintages shops we’ve ever come across!
HM: Who is your fashion icon?
K-M: We’ve got a few… Erin Wasson, Rachel Zoe, Irina Lazareanu and Mary Kate Olsen.

HM: What is the biggest mistake a woman can make when getting dressed?
K-M: Not dressing for your size.. if you’re a 12 don’t try and squeeze into an 8… not flattering! And don’t wear too many trends at once, mix them in with your personal style. You don’t want to be a fashion victim!

HM: What is one lesson you are grateful for learning throughout your experience in launching your label? K-M: The list is so long, we don’t want to bore you guys… Just remember cash flow is everything!!

HM: What advice would you give to young fashion professionals trying to make their fame?
K-M
: Know your market… find out who it is your designing for and target it. Research and it’s better to do a few things really well, than a thousand things half arsed!

HM: If you could give women a tip to be fabulous what would it be? K-M: Wear Maurie & Eve and bring your own style to it, make it your own! Oh and confidence is key!

The Trend Countdown | Fall 2009

My favourite part of every season is checking Vogue's pick of the best trends to work with. This season is all about repeats and we're still in love with 80s style.
  • The Footwear: Ankle boots - heeled: wedged or stilettos. Unless you dare to wear waders.

  • The Dress: Forties-inspired and belted.

  • The Coat: A big statement, the shaggier the better.

  • The Length: It's not recession long yet - you can still show a little leg.

  • The Trouser: Nappy pants are still in - or go tight and in leather if you dare.

  • The Erogenous Zone: Tone up those arms and invest in some thermals - you're going sleeveless next winter.

  • The Must-Have: Something, anything, with pronounced shoulders.

  • The Colour: Black. If not black, then black. And if you really can't bear to, then pink - or red and black together.
Here are Haute Mimi we're obsessing over ankle boots, and especially the ones at Burberry with the most amazing laces, what trends will you be working this season?

"I base my fashion sense on what doesn't itch."

You are not that interested in fashion... When someone says that lime-green is the new black for this season, you just want to tell them to get a life. You don't think much about what's hot and what's not at the moment. You just do your thing and have- in a way- your own unique style.

(16-26) points

"Only great minds can afford a simple style."
Being simple doesn't mean you lack style, it just means you're a down-to-earth girl. And like Yves Saint Laurent said: "I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, appeal, simplicity - all I hope for in my clothes."

(27-35) points

"We are shaped and fashioned by what we love."
Whether it's a unique dress, elegant pair of pumps or a specific color, you've got your own style. You may get influenced with all the fashion trends out there, but you choose what suits you the best and the ones you like and leave out all the rest.

(36-49) points

"We live not according to reason, but according to fashion."

You're what they call a fashion addict or junkie. There's not a single trend, style or "it" item you miss without checking out and maybe if it's hot enough for this season get it. You're someone people follow and describe your style as unique.

Spring 2009 Trends

The new silhouette this season starts from the shoulders, the hugely prominent big shoulders provide a revival to the 80's. For SS 09 shoulders are going to be authoritative, tailored and self-confident.
Also big in 09 are tropical colours, wonderful pistachio, lime, papaya, lemon, kingfisher blue, also lots of nudes as well, neutral is everywhere. These particularly suit fair and redheaded people. Prints abound, wonderful parrot prints from Peter Pilotto, big polka dots. Look too for ruffles and bows and softer gothic lace to create a more feminine feel.
The look is unmistakeable and is seen in up-to- date women business suits, also carried over into blouses, little squared dresses, jackets, and even the humble t- shirt has built-in shoulder pads. Jeans are ripped or embroidered.
For a cheap, chic update, slide a pair of detachable shoulder pads into a cardi or coat. Combine the boxy jacket with new peg trousers, cigarette pants or capri pants. Short suits featuring sexy hot pants combined with a jacket, are another tribute to the 80’s.Jumpsuits are figure hugging in slinky jersey, bright colours, and leopard prints.

And if you’re going for it, remember that this look needs 100 per cent commitment. Finally to make this look really work, you should add retro accessories or better still rolled up sleeves for a genuinely 80’s feel! Look for scarf type belts, bug glasses and huge chunky and chandelier earrings.
Dresses have shoulder pads, many have embroidery and embellishments, look for simple shifts in bright tropical colours. Skirts are pencil or tulip shaped to complement large double breasted blazers. -Gabrielle Teare

What's Haute, New Fashion Trends: The Moto Jacket

The motorcycle jacket isn’t just for bikers nowadays. Thanks to fashion designers, their modern refinement to such a tough jacket makes it stylish for all to wear. While you may never have considered owning a moto jacket, you might just change your mind.

Of course it had to be Alexander McQueen to turn me onto the moto jacket. Rest assured, there are many fantastic versions out there in every price range - making it easy for most everyone to pull it off. Personally, I love pulling other edgy pieces together with the jacket, such as the boots and jeans, while softening the look a bit with the scarf and handbag. The black hoops are the happy medium. See, the moto jacket isn’t so far fetched.

If you’re not ready for leather, check out Marc by Marc Jacob’s biker cardigan. A great alternative, especially since the moto falls into the trendy category. - Catherine Horgan

Lanvin Resort Spring 2009

I love resort collections because I feel as if designers really let their hair down and run loose with their imagination. Two looks from Lanvin's resort collection caught my eye. The first look is right on trend with the boyfriend blazer in SS09's "it color" pink. Two really big trends of the season in one. I personally wouldn't wear the blazer because I'm petite. However I've seen many lovely ladies pull it off with grace. It looks really fantastic with a full sequin skirt.

This look is really whimsical as it is chic. It's perfect for those women who dress out of the box. Last year artsy prints were huge and now this year we'll be going ga-ga for really bold animal prints, floral prints, or any print for that matter. Prints in black and white are always stylish. See more resort trends here.

Gossip Girl Style

Along with the 3 million other teenagers who tune in to Gossip Girl once a week, I for one am one of them. Watching Serena, Blair and Jenny run around in stilettos and Anna Sui warms my heart like chocolate does for the hungry. Its not just the storylines, but their style which attracts me to watch it.
Serena is the typically blonde bombshell who throws anything and everything(Chanel to Ralph Lauren)on and looks amazing. Based in Kate Moss, she fits the profile with every guy stopping to stare.
Blair Wardorf is the personification of sophisticated with tweed jackets and fitted blazers, she works the mature look without looking too much. I love her pumps and random tight combos, which only Blair could pull off.

Lastly there is Jenny Humphrey, fabulously chic in her little get ups, she works Marc Jacobs and bejewelled numbers with bows to match all with a touch of edge.
So, which Gossip Girl are you? xoxo V
