Lanvin For H&M Holiday Collection

Lanvin is designing a capsule collection for H&M this coming holiday season. I personally adore Lanvin and think it is one design house that epitomizes French luxury. Everyone has shopped at H&M at least once in their lifetime so this will be great exposure for Lanvin on a global level. It's a great PR move on their part. More info to follow.

Accessories Report | Barbara Bui Exotic Glamour

I love animal skins so you can imagine how happy I was when Barbara Bui decided to do snakeskin shoes and handbags in candy colors. I especially like the chain-link details very edgy but still ultra glamorous. These accessories will look stellar with a little white bandage dress or an embellished sheath. Ooh La La The Secrets Of French Chic By Gabrielle Teare

With Carla Bruni set to become the new Jackie O, it is time to get some of that seemingly effortless chic, poise and polish into your wardrobe. Not for years has the political landscape had someone as stylish and elegant. How do you achieve this look? One way to do this is visit a Fashion Stylist. The other is to follow my secret tips....

Fashion in Milan, Paris and London remains very different to the US. Europeans love America for casual clothes and will stock up on all the basics, jeans etc. Particularly with the current dollar rate.Visit Paris, and arriving on Eurostar what you notice is Quality. So how do Parisians do it? Here's How:

Invest in good jewellery. From waitresses to shop assistants, French women will wear beautiful pieces clearly saved for. Costume jewellery is often large scale and chosen to match colours. Parisians will buy the dress and at the same time the matching must-have necklace. Galerie Lafayette and other department stores carry vast choice.

Shoes must be leather, high quality, as opposed to high fashion and are chosen every season.
Bags are another investment piece, whatever the budget quality is paramount.

Each season Parisians flock to the stores and buy just one or two key items. This is not random shopping, it is carefully considered choices. Colours and styles are chosen to complement existing items.

Scarves are everywhere, worn in every permutation by young and old alike.

Cosmetics, hair and skin care are highly valued, with regular facials, tints etc. to present a groomed look. Many shops carry large ranges of small diffusion beauty brands at every price level.

High fashion trends are cheaper and mixed in with the investment buys and designed to last one season.

Lingerie is a whole universe. Big department stores will have a whole floor given over to lingerie. French women know they look good from the inside out. This is true grooming.

Perfume. It is the nation of Perfumers -look good smell good.

Knowing what truly suits them and buying it. This is probably the key secret. If you don’t know this, use a Personal Shopper or Image Consultant and learn. What you learn will pay dividends for the rest of your life.

Required Reading: Valentino: Themes and Variations

The legacy of Valentino continues on. The new book, Valentino: Themes and Variations (Rizzoli) by Pamela Golbin with commentary from Valentino himself chronicles the history of the house as well as an in depth look of the inspirations behind the designs. The new book is a collector's item and a keepsake for every devoted fan of Valentino and the fashion industry. Find out more about the book here.
Valentino aka,Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, became interested in fashion while in middle school in his native Voghera, Lombardy, Italy, when he apprenticed under his uncle Rosa and local designer Ernestina Salvadeo, an aunt of noted artist Aldo Giorgini).

At 17 Valentino moved to Paris to pursue this interest with the help of his mother Teresa de Biaggi and his father Mauro Garavani. There he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and at the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne.Valentino's international debut took place in 1962 in Florence, the Italian fashion capital of the time. His first show at the Pitti Palace was welcomed as a true revelation and the young couturier was submerged by orders from foreign buyers and enthusiastic comments on the press.

After the breakthrough show in Florence, Valentino started to dress the ladies of the international best-dressed crowd such as his acquaintance from the Paris years Countess Jacqueline de Ribes and New York socialites Babe Paley and Jayne Wrightsman.

In 1966, confident of his client base, he moved his shows from Florence to Rome and there, two years later, he had one of his greatest triumphs, an all-white collection, which became famous for the "V" logo he designed. Valentino's style can be seen as much more conservative and fixed. His concept of elegance and allure is basically an exercise in glamour for the sake of glamour itself. He will truly be missed. -Phillip R

Carine Roitfeld by Vanessa Lee

Carine Roitfeld the editor-in-chief of French Vogue’s career began when she was 18 years old, after being scouted in Paris by a photographer’s assistant. However her modelling did not take off and she began writing at French ELLE. It was then she decided that styling was something of an interest for her and she began freelance styling as-well as working as the stylist for ELLE.
Carine met the famous Mario Testino during a children’s fashion shoot for Italian Vogue Bambini which included her daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld as a model and began to make important contacts of which she would keep for many years to come. Working more closely with Testino, they became a pair doing advertising and spreads for French and American Vogue, of which helped both of them to grab the attention of the industry for their eye for style.
Carine was then offered the position as a consultant and part-time muse for Tom Ford whilst he reined at Gucci, then Yves Saint Laurent for several years. Finally she was approached by Conde Nast’s international Chairman Jonathan Newhouse to become the editor-in-chief of French Vogue in 2001.
Through her career she contributed to styling the images of Gucci, Missoni and Versace as-well as giving her endless support to unknown labels and new trends. Once accepting the role, Carines management of the magazine proved quite the success improving sales and number of readers increasingly. For years there have been rumours of a rift between fellow Editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour however Carine was quick to disagree and has been seen frequently with Anna at past events. fter 7 years as the Editor of one of the most exclusive magazines in the business, she is still as successful as ever, all while wearing Balmain.
