HM LIFESTYLE | Interior Designer Extraordinaire Preston Lee

What’s the point in sweating over spring cleaning, when we can just change our interiors? Or better still, get the exquisite designer Preston Lee to do it for us (after all, it gives us an excuse for more shopping!)

Texas-born Preston first gained fame after becoming a finalist in Bravo’s hot young talent competition, Top Designer. He may have bowed out of the show in third place owing to a lack of ‘wow-factor’, but that didn’t lower the public opinion of his designs, in fact, 64% of viewers felt he should have won.
Nowadays Preston is a far-cry from not having the wow-factor, with Janice Dickenson’s Modeling Agency, iCandy bar, the Green Condo Complex in Hollywood and the design of celebrity homes filling in his portfolio, it’s no wonder the interior designer is still successful years after his TV stint. When asked what drew him into interior designs, he told us it was ‘my father and my own aspiration to create things for people and their families which drastically changes their life.

Preston flourishes when it comes to creating an atmosphere of grandeur and extravagant elegance, feeling it only possible to create the most stunning room compilations by mixing only designer interior designs. His rooms are often neutral in palette, dropping in an exuberant splash of rich colour, usually in the form of a show-stopping light or an awe-inspiring chandelier. Preston is usually inspired by ‘places I travel to, styles of homes, client’s personal style and cultures around the world. A worldly designer creates something for the client that’s both unique and timeless.
He now designs for many luxurious designers including Jennifer Dyer, who helped him design the beautiful boudoir-esque interiors of her house for Top Designer, but he is currently working on two custom homes and a condo remodel in part of the new Las Vegas city centre in Mandarin Oriental.

Qualifying from the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising, Preston started his successful entrepreneurial career working at Kenneth Brown Design, before endeavouring to create his own design house at the age of 21. With a love for all things design, Preston Lee is the inspiration needed when transforming your pad. Though when asked for home-design tips, the only one he would divulge was to employ an interior designer, but of course, we would expect nothing less from a designer-great. -Isabella Stockwell

Getting Organized | The Container Store

I have OCD when it comes to organizing things so whenever I go to The Container Store I'm in heaven! It's actually one of my favorite stores and you can find some fabulous items for your home there. I recently visited The Container Store because I wanted to organize my vanity table and most of all, my extensive makeup collection. I ended up finding some great items including acrylic 3-Drawer Boxes, glass brush holders for my makeup brushes and large glass trays. I have a clear theme going on as it is much easier to find things and also it looks much more polished. Click here for more info.
P.S. I really loved this article on their site about how to organize shoes, because I happen to have a sea of shoes that really need to be organized ASAP. Click here to read.

Maura Peters Candles

One of my favorite things to have on my desk is a gorgeous candle in a sublime scent. I have an affinity for luxury candles and my new favorite candle brand is Maura Peters. I especially like the organic salvage and white glass collections. The organic salvage candles are made from recycled glass and are 100% organic. My favorite scent form the savage line is 'for the dogs" which is a light crisp citrus scent that really revitalizes your room. I am currently burning the white candle in vanilla grapefruit which is heavenly. The white candle can be reused as a vase once the candle burns out, Maura recommends filing them with peonies. HM Interiors | Indian Inspired Bedroom

So, I haven't been posting in the last week since I have been extremely busy moving and had over 6 events to attaend (I thought NY fashion week was over). I never knew I had so many handbags, shoes and clothing. It is gluttonous to have so much stuff, but then again I am a fashion editor and I do love to change it up everyday so I forgive myself. In any case today I went to buy some new bedding for my new bedroom. I usually stick to 800 count stark white Egyptian Cotton sheets but I thought I would live it up a bit and bring some color in for once. I looked at a few places but surprisingly enough fell in love with Seventeen's bedding collection at JCPenny. It is a beautiful bohemian style bedding set that really sets the Indian Tone that I am going for. They didn't have the matching pillows at the store but I ordered them online. If you like this style you can find it here. I will put pics of the room when it is finally complete.

Fashion Week Diary | Yotam Solomon SS10

After the Boudoir D'huitres presentation, Yevgeniya and I headed down to Tribeca to view a unique exhibit which intertwined haute interior design with haute fashion. The event was hosted by fashion designer Yotam Solomon and interior designer Preston Lee at the Design Within Reach showroom. It was a fun soiree filled with beautiful people, great music and amazing designs. Yotam has been one of our most adored fashion designers here at Haute Mimi you can view his interview here. I've been an admirer of Preston's work for many years now, he creates spaces with an old Hollywood aura with a modern twist, see more of his work here. We will be sure to bring you more from these two gorgeous designers in the coming season. Stay tuned.

Nikki Chu is the gorgeous designer behind the sensational signature handbag line taking the accessories world by storm. With past experience as an interior designer to the stars Nikki Chu has an innate sense of style and an eye for sophistication that all women can appreciate. From laptop bags fit for a professional diva to cosmetics and travel bags fir for a jet-setter, there's really something for every girl at Nikki Chu. Classy, sexy, glamourous and ultra modern almost sums up Nikki and her amazing line. We wanted to know what this glamour girl had to say on style, steal her tips.

HM: Describe your style in one word.
NC: "Style-Star"

HM: What is your best-kept fashion secret?
NC: Vintag clothes mixed with expensive shoes and a hot jacket.

HM: Where is your favorite place to shop for handbags?
NC: My site of course, NIKKICHUBAGS.COM

HM: Who is your style icon?
NC: Alexander Mcqueen, he is brilliant!

HM: What is the biggest fashion mistake a woman can make when it comes to handbags?
NC: I don't think there are any fashion mistakes with handbags, the more unique a bag is the bigger the statement, I'm an "OVER THE TOP" kind of girl, so for me the more interesting the bag, the better.

HM: What is one lesson you are grateful for learning throughout your career in fashion?
NC: One lesson I am truly greatful for learning in my career is to stick to my own concepts and ideas and execute them with confidence.

HM: What advice would you give to young fashion handbag designers trying to make their fame?
NC: My advice would be to study and research old and new bag shapes, and unique fabrics. Do not be afraid to use bright colors and mix unexpected shaped and patterns. In a world of rhinestones and studs, sometimes less is more. Try keeping to classic shapes and funky colors and lines.

HM: If you could give women a fashion tip to be fabulous what would it be?
NC: Always have a great belt to throw over your dress, blouse or even tee-shirts. Layer, layer, layer! Style is about putting things together that no one expects. Accessories are the secret to setting the tone for your style. I never leave home without putting on a great pair of earrings and a few chunky bracelets and a great handbag.
