VOGUE THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE

Go inside the glossy pages of Vogue the fashion documentary, The September Issue struts into theaters this fall. The film documents one of the most powerful and legendary figures in the fashion industry, Vogue editor in chief (for twenty years), Anna Wintour. Both feared and respected, Wintour overseas designers, models, photographers and editors, and determines the fashions for each season. She has turned into a fashion icon and for the first time ever; she has allowed cameras into her mysterious life.

Director and producer R.J. Cutler, takes us behind the scenes and inside the world of fashion as Wintour and her team of editors put together the most important and highly anticipated Vogue issue of the year, the September issue. In fact, the September 2007 issue was the single largest magazine issue ever published to weigh nearly five pounds and selling thirteen million copies.

Over the nine-month period in which the film was shot, Cutler and the Vogue team takes viewers to Fashion Week, Europe, photos shoots, and inside closed-door staff meetings. It’s any fashionistas dream. We will also be able to gain insight into the two-decade conflict between Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington, the Creative Director and how they battle it out to stay on top of the ever-changing fashion industry

The September Issue will be released in New York City, the U.S.’s fashion capital on August 28 and everywhere else on September 11.

Vogue's New Look?

Rumour has it that Vogue US will be having a Major turnover, with Anna Wintour's original vision completely wiped in order to create a new magazine which will respond to the falling ad sales. Bloggers, writers and all round fashionista's are saying the magazine will be less 'society' and more 'trendy' with new designers, unexpected storylines and of course a lot more high fashion than usual.Personally i'm excited to see the outcome and would love the magazine to move away from its celebrity obsession and go back to its roots. Bring on Cathy Horyn to replace Grace Coddington maybe and then we'll have a best seller.

Michelle Obama for VOGUE

The First Lady everyone has been waiting for, Michelle Obama, graces VOGUE US' March cover. Following Hilary Clinton's stint on the cover, Michelle poses in a series of elegant and poised photographs. Obama was photographed by Annie Leibovitz in a Jason Wu dress for the issue and as usual, looked every inch the first lady. Now thats Andre Leon Talley, Anna Wintour, Katy Perry and Jason Wu who loves her. Hands up if you agree?

Carine Roitfeld the editor-in-chief of French Vogue’s career began when she was 18 years old, after being scouted in Paris by a photographer’s assistant. However her modelling did not take off and she began writing at French ELLE. It was then she decided that styling was something of an interest for her and she began freelance styling as-well as working as the stylist for ELLE.

Carine met the famous Mario Testino during a children’s fashion shoot for Italian Vogue Bambini which included her daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld as a model and began to make important contacts of which she would keep for many years to come. Working more closely with Testino, they became a pair doing advertising and spreads for French and American Vogue, of which helped both of them to grab the attention of the industry for their eye for style.

Carine was then offered the position as a consultant and part-time muse for Tom Ford whilst he reined at Gucci, then Yves Saint Laurent for several years. Finally she was approached by Conde Nast’s international Chairman Jonathan Newhouse to become the editor-in-chief of French Vogue in 2001.

Through her career she contributed to styling the images of Gucci, Missoni and Versace as-well as giving her endless support to unknown labels and new trends. Once accepting the role, Carines management of the magazine proved quite the success improving sales and number of readers increasingly. For years there have been rumours of a rift between fellow Editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour however Carine was quick to disagree and has been seen frequently with Anna at past events. fter 7 years as the Editor of one of the most exclusive magazines in the business, she is still as successful as ever, all while wearing Balmain.

Fashion Icon: Andre Leon Talley

It would be difficult to consider oneself a fashion aficionado without knowing Andre Leon Talley's impact in the industry. After all, Lauren Weisberger found enough inspiration in Talley's impressive career at Vogue to create Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada. Andre Leon Talley was raised in Durham, North Carolina. His grandmother influenced his "understanding of luxury" Talley studied at North Carolina Central University and received a master's degree in French literature from Brown University. He befriended Diana Vreeland the former American Vogue editor-in-chief. He joined the fashion arsenal at American Vogue as the fashion news director in 1983 and then became Vogue's creative director. In 1988, Talley was promoted to Editor at Large. He is known for revolutionizing American Vogue, as well as, mentoring and promoting up-and-coming designers. As a front-row regular at fashion shows across the globe, Andre Leon Talley has his own definition of style. FASHION

Anna Wintour By Vanessa Lee

Editor-in-chief for 20 years of American Vogue, Anna Wintour is widely known as the ‘most powerful woman in fashion’, a fashion icon and ‘Nuclear Wintour’ for her demanding reputation. Starting at the tender age of 15 years old, she worked at the hip BIBA store in London till she was 16 years old and decided to drop out of education at North London Collegiate School, much to her parents disapproval.

A young Wintour was regularly consulted by her father Charles the editor of the Evening Standard, as-well as wearing her hair in her now trademark bob.
However after dropping out of school she enrolled in a fashion course at Harrods, as-well as taking fashion classes nearby, but a determined Wintour stopped after famously declaring “ you either know fashion, or you don’t “.

Beginning a pattern of dating older and well-known gentlemen, she briefly dated Nigel Dempster and Piers Paul Read and became a regular on the party scene in London. However, as her career began to take off in fashion journalism, Wintour travelled over the Atlantic where she worked briefly at Home & Garden and New York, before working as editorial assistant at Harpers & Queen making it known to her fellow colleagues that she wanted to edit Vogue in the future.
Along the way she discovered Annabel Hodin the model, making connections with the likes of Helmut Newton.

She left in 1975 over rumors of a disagreement with the editor Min Hogg and moved to New York with Jon Bradshaw a well known freelance journalist at the time, with his help she secured a position as a fashion editor at Viva a woman’s magazine. After several months, Bradshaw's help got her first position as a fashion editor, then left to work at a new women’s magazine titled Savvy.

The following year Wintour promoted herself to fashion editor of New York which would become the turning point for her career attracting attention for her fashion spreads and shoots for the magazine.

She was then offered a job at British Vogue which she accepted after a bidding war which ended in a salary twice as big for Wintour, another sign of her demanding personality.
During this time she revolutionized the magazine becoming the editor-in-chief at the time as-well , and then finally was offered the job of editing American Vogue.

She fell pregnant twice to David Shaffer, husband at the time with daughter Elizabeth and Charles and reportedly Vogue paid for her expenses including a townhouse nanny and regular concord trips.

Now after 20 years of Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has changed American Vogue as-well as helped unknown designers become known, made over $10 million for AIDS charity and organized high-profile events in the Fashion industry; she is a woman of class and effortless style and is still reining after so many years on the top. - FASHION
